Kikuletwa Hotspring

The journey from Arusha or Moshi to Kikuletwa Hotsprings starts from the main road leading to Moshi or Arusha, depending on your starting point. Along this route, you may catch a glimpse of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. When we reach Boma Area we will deviate from the main road (Moshi to Arusha Road), the adventure takes a turn onto an off-road path, immersing you in the vast expanse of no man’s land. 

Traverse through the stunning African countryside, passing by bushland, dry riverbeds, and the iconic baobab and acacia trees. This expansive region is inhabited by diverse tribes, providing a glimpse of their unique cultures as we make our way to Kikuletwa Hotsprings.

The road to Kikuletwa Hot Springs isn’t paved, so brace yourself for a roughly half-hour to an hour journey on a rugged, unpaved road. Expect bumps, potholes, and occasional flooding along the way (if its rain season).

Upon reaching the hot springs, a myriad of activities awaits. Take a refreshing swim, experience the thrill of a rope swing, explore the surroundings, and bask in the tranquility of the lush green oasis. For those motivated, snorkeling goggles are available for rent, allowing you to observe the underwater world and perhaps spot elusive turtles.

You have two choices for entering the water: either descending via a weathered wooden staircase or taking a more adventurous leap into the deeper section of the lagoon. Upon placing your feet on the ladder, small fish initiate a playful “attack,” nibbling away at the dead skin, creating a spontaneous, free fish spa experience. If you’re new to this, you might find it ticklish or slightly uncomfortable at first. However, rest assured that once you start moving around, the fish will gracefully let you be.

The water at Kikuletwa Hot Springs is exceptionally clear, allowing a clear view of its bed adorned with large boulders and tree roots. Despite its classification as a hot spring, it’s important to note that the water is more accurately described as lukewarm. This quality adds a refreshing touch, especially when the external temperature is elevated. Additionally, there’s a gentle current within the water that may subtly pull you along. To facilitate moments of rest, there are two ropes strategically placed for you to hold onto if needed.

Several picnic tables are available, providing a pleasant spot for you to relish your lunch, take a short break and enjoy the picnic lunch you brought along from Moshi/Arusha at noon.
