Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve

Your luxury Kenya safari tour begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading towards the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve. This iconic wilderness remains one of the last truly untamed places on Earth, where wildlife continues to roam freely in large numbers just as it did centuries ago.

As the northern extension of the famed Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara is best known for hosting the awe-inspiring Great Migration, where thousands upon thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles thunder across the plains in search of greener pastures, pursued closely by predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas.

After a scenic drive through Kenya’s captivating countryside, you’ll arrive in time to enjoy a delicious lunch at your luxurious lodge or tented camp. In the afternoon, set out on your first thrilling game drive, where you’ll have your initial encounter with the Mara’s incredible wildlife set against the backdrop of golden savannahs and dramatic skies.
This marks the beginning of an unforgettable journey deep into the heart of Kenya’s wild beauty.

The Maasai Mara is renowned for its black-manned lions and large populations of big cats. It is one of the few places where the elusive Big Five can be seen in a single morning’s game drive. The Mara’s resident wildlife is abundant, and many cheetahs, so accustomed to human presence, will seek shade under your vehicle, with some even climbing onto the roof to get a better vantage point of potential prey.

For bird enthusiasts, the Mara is a paradise, with nearly 500 species recorded. Among these are 16 species of eagle, numerous hawks and falcons, and a wide variety of other majestic birds, including vultures, storks, and the impressive Kori bustard the world’s heaviest flying bird.
