Day by Day

Day 1: Arusha to Lake Natron (Ol Doinyo Lengai)

Your adventure begins in the morning when you meet your driver-guide at your hotel in Arusha. From there, you’ll embark on a scenic drive toward Lake Natron, passing through some of the most stunning landscapes in northern Tanzania. On arrival at Lake Natron, you’ll have the chance to witness the region’s famous flamingos, which gather in vast numbers here, making it one of the most important breeding sites for the birds.

After enjoying the serene beauty of Lake Natron, you’ll have dinner and relax, preparing for the highlight of your tour: the Ol Doinyo Lengai climb. As the night falls, you’ll begin the ascent, starting at nearly midnight to avoid the searing heat of the day. This timing also offers the chance to experience the volcano under the stars, creating a unique spectacle that few have the privilege to witness.

Day 2: Ol Doinyo Lengai Summit and Return to Arusha

Your climb will continue in the early morning hours, with the goal of reaching the summit in time for sunrise. As the first light of day breaks, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views: to the north, the vast salt flats of Lake Natron stretch to the horizon, while in the distance, the Kenyan border looms. To the east, you’ll see the towering snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, and to the south, the Ngorongoro Highlands and Crater unfold before you, offering panoramic views that will take your breath away.

At the summit, you’ll have the chance to explore the peak of this active volcano and enjoy a picnic breakfast, surrounded by the mesmerizing landscapes of the Great Rift Valley. After your well-earned rest, you’ll begin your descent, taking in more stunning views along the way.

Once back at the base of the mountain, you’ll have the chance to cool off with a swim under the refreshing waterfalls near the area. Afterward, a hot lunch will be served at the campsite, allowing you to recharge before the journey back to Arusha.

In the late afternoon, you’ll drive back to Arusha, where your incredible adventure comes to a close.
